MEdUSA 2017-2018
Picture
President - Trevor Tsui
Picture
Trevor is entering his 4th year of the Concurrent Music Education program with a concentration in classical trombone, and his third year on MEdUSA. As President, Trevor represents McGill's Music Education student body to the Schulich School of Music, the Faculty of Education and other organizations. He is here to make your concerns heard, so feel free to flag him down if you see him around campus or by emailing him at medusa.mcgill@gmail.com!

VP Communications - Mitchel Russo
Picture
Mitchel is in his fourth year of the Concurrent Music Education Program studying classical saxophone and finishing up a minor in Economics.  This is his second year on the MEdUSA council and he's super excited to continue to send out some super funny pun filled emails - he figured out how to add gifs into the emails too!  When he's not trying to solve all the worlds economic problems, he's exploring all the saxophone rep in the Music Library, or day dreaming about exploring the world.  Don't be afraid to stop him when you see him and tell him how EL OH EL his emails are ;)

VP Professional Development - Rebecca Manga
Picture
Rebecca is in her third year of the Concurrent Music Education program at McGill, majoring on piano. She is looking forward to her first year on student council, as she organizes workshops and other educational opportunities! Rebecca enjoys running outside, running on treadmills, and if she's really desperate, running in place. This year, you will most likely find her sprinting around the music building, the education building and around the track. If she is not scurrying around campus, you can most likely find her at Timmies wolfing down a double-double and an apple fritter. Do not hesitate to pull her aside to ask questions or simply to say hello! Rebecca may run around, but she will not run away! :)

First Year Representative - Kristianna Fox
Picture
Kristi is in her first year of McGill’s marvelous Music Education program with a concentration in classical oboe. She is pumped to be the first year representative on MEdUSA and to get more involved in improving our already-fabulous music education program. A New Hampshire native, Kristi enjoys singing in the shower, frolicking about in Montreal, and making apple crisp using the limited kitchen equipment available at RVC. Her role on MEdUSA is that of first year rep, so please approach her with questions, concerns, and restaurant recommendations! She accepts donations of samosas and excellent oboe reeds.

VP Academic - Min Kim
Picture
Min is a third year student at McGill in the Concurrent Music Education program and is she ever looking forward to making magic happen on her first year in MEdUSA council! When avoiding practicing piano, she can be found on the streets stalking animals, babies, or humans… Min is a small town gal from the East Coast and she fights a daily battle against birds in a big city infested with pigeons. As VP Academic, Min is here to answer questions you might have regarding courses or even where the best poutine is!!! If you are ever in need of someone to talk to or even venture around the city, Min is never the one to shy away from making new friends so feel free to say hi!!!

VP Finance - Naira Sidi
Picture
Naira is in her 4th year of the B. Mus / B. Ed Program here at McGill.  She came to Montreal from Plano, Texas, seeking winters with -40 windchill, Tim Hortons, and an AWESOME music education program. You can usually find her jammin' out to the latest bassoon repertoire in the practice rooms or studying in the Marvin Duchow Music Library!  Don't be afraid to say hey!

Co-VP Social - Nicole Furrier
Picture
Nicole is in her third year at McGill in the Music Education dual-degree program and is looking forward to her second year on the MEdUSA council! When she’s not busy trying to make it less abundantly obvious she’s a voice major while she’s playing flute in the McGill Fight Band, you can find her beatboxing in Soulstice A Cappella and selling samosas on Wednesdays in the Strathcona lobby.  She also occasionally writes executive council bio’s about herself in the third person. As co-VP Social with Nicole Tempas, she helps plan and organize anything from semiformal cocktails to chill movie nights. Feel free to come to her for any questions/suggestions for upcoming events, or to just say hi!

President - Eve-Marie Boileau

VP Communications - MITCHEL RUSSO

Picture
Eve-Marie just started her final year here at McGill in the Music Education program. This is her second year on the MEdUSA council and she is very excited to work with all of the amazing people on the council. With piano being her major instrument, she can proudly say that she can now play a variety of instruments thanks to the multiple techniques courses that she took! When she is not in her classes or at stage, she can be found hanging out in the cafeteria probably telling (or repeating) the latest scoops about her life or showing pictures of her cat Mimi. With always a ton of ideas, she will make sure to plan the best Music Ed events for you! Please don’t be shy to come talk to her about YOUR latest life scoops or to share pictures of your cat!

VP Academic - Nicole Furrier

Picture
Nicole just started her second year at McGill in the Music Education dual-degree program and is looking forward to her first year on the MEdUSA council! When she’s not busy trying to make it less abundantly obvious she’s a voice major in all her instrumental techniques classes, you can find her tutoring, wandering the third floor of the music library, or trying to convince all of her friends to take Zumba at the fitness center with her. She also occasionally writes executive council bio’s about herself in the third person. Feel free to come to her for any questions about the music education program or scheduling or to just say hi!

VP Professional Development - Trevor Tsui

Picture
Trevor is in his third year of the Concurrent Music Education program at McGill and his second year on MEdUSA. He is an active band clinician and teacher currently based in the Montreal area. As the Vice President of Professional Development, his duties include organizing workshops and professional learning opportunities for the Music Education student body at the Schulich School of Music. Trevor likes to cook, exercise, read biographies and win internet points on Reddit.

First Year Representative - Shikara Fahie

Picture
Shikara has just started her first year here at McGill in the Music Education program with a concentration in classical saxophone. As this is her first year on council, she is very excited to represent her fellow Music Ed first years. When Shikara is not playing sax, she is either trying to teach herself guitar, baking snickerdoodles, dancing (her name might not be “Shakira”, but her hips never lie!). And if you cannot find her doing any of these things, she’s probably at Timmies getting another coffee. She is more than happy to stop and chat (especially if it’s at a Timmies) and help out in any way she can!

Picture
Mitchel is in his third year of the Music Education Program majoring on classical saxophone and doing a minor in Economics.  This is his first year on the MEdUSA council and he's super excited to send out some super funny pun filled emails!  When he's not attending Senate meetings, or sitting in on subcommittees on equity, student advising or teaching & learning he's in the music library exploring all the Saxophone sheet music!  Feel free to email him about any questions you may have, or if you're looking for a hilarious joke or story, he's usually pretty good for one of those!

Co-VP Social - Heather Worling

Picture
Heather is in her fifth (and final!) year of Music Education, majoring on the euphonium. This is her fifth year on the MEdUSA council and she is looking forward to another amazing year! She is really looking forward to her new position and planning awesome parties!  When Heather isn't student teaching or in class, she can be found playing video games, reading fantasy books, watching TV shows set in space, or freaking out about the Dragon Age franchise to unsuspecting passers-by. Ask me about my theories on Rey's parentage!

VP Finance - Pei Yao Xu

Picture
Pei is in her final year of music education, majoring in piano. This is her second year on the MEdUSA council and she is very excited to spend all of the MEdUSA budget on food and litter for her cat Creampuff! Okay, just kidding but you all know how a pet can get really expensive... When she is not working really hard for her classes (with an acceptable level of procrastination), cultivating a love-hate relationship with her cat, or learning to become a better person in life, she is probably rehearsing for her next dance show (Watch out for the funkiest groove in town). Feel free to say hi whenever you see her in the hallways or the music caf, and don’t forget to show her your new killer moves!

Advanced Placement Rep - Aiden Fontaine-O'Connell

Picture
Aiden is starting an undergrad in Music Education with Advanced Standing at McGill. He previously studied Jazz Trombone, with a minor in Music Technology, also at the Schulich School of Music. He is interested in sound recording and design, as well as IT.  As a student employee of McGill’s IT Services, he loves helping his peers and instructors breathe a sign of relief when the sound starts working again! It is his first year on a student council at McGill, and he is looking forward to giving a voice to his fellow Music Ed majors. So, read MEdUSA publications! Come by the events! Got any concerns? Let him know, he'll pass it on. (Yes, there is a chin hidden under his beard...)

MEdUSA 2015-2016

President - Naomi Garrett

Naomi is in her fifth and final year of the Concurrent Music Education program at McGill and her third year on MEdUSA. She is an active violinist and music teacher in Montreal and beyond. Apart from her school work and her music life, Naomi loves playing basketball, baking and spending time with her family and friends. As President, Naomi represents the Music Education student body to the Schulich School of Music and all outside organizations. She is also here to listen to you and make your voice heard! Feel free to contact her at medusa.mcgill@gmail.com or find her on Facebook with any concerns you have related to Music Education at McGill. She's here to make your year in Music Ed the best it can possibly be! Have a great one, Music Ed!

CO-VP Finance - Gillian Chen

Picture
Gillian is in her fifth and final year of Music Education majoring on the violin, minoring in Economics. This is her third year as VP Finance on the council, and she is excited to be supporting the Music Education community for another year! When Gillian is not busy running between classes and work (and making sure Pei does not spend all the budget on Creampuff! ;) ), she can be found surfing imgur and staring at internet cats. Feel free to say hi or ask away with any questions when you see her wandering around the McGill campus!

Advanced Standing Rep - Tobias Moisey

Picture
Toby Moisey is in the first of two years of Music Education advance placement at McGill. Toby recently completed a Masters of Music in Flute at the Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatory in Saint Petersburg, Russia and has a Bachelor of Music from the University of Victoria, where he specialized in music education.  Toby is a performer, composer and even radio show host and has an adventurous spirit. If you can pin him down, you might find him in the Music library listening to random vinyl.

First Year Rep - Kyle Martis

Picture
Kyle is in his first-year of Music Education, majoring on clarinet. This is his first year on the council and he is looking forward to representing the Music Ed first-year students' needs! When he isn't playing clarinet, Kyle is usually talking about his awesome cadet musicians in Vaudreuil-Dorion, and about cadets in general. He also dreams of a collaboration between Leonard Bernstein and Bobby McFerrin, when technology makes this possible. Feel free to discuss calculus and number theory (or anything else, really!) when you see him around.

Picture
Heather is in her fourth year of Music Education, majoring on the euphonium. This is her fourth year on the MEdUSA council and she is looking forward to another amazing year! If you have any questions, concerns, complaints, compliments or really bad puns, feel free to email her at medusa.mcgill@gmail.com or stop her in the hallway. She'll be the short one singing to herself. When Heather isn't hanging out in the MEdUSA office, she can be found playing video games, watching TV shows set in space, or freaking out about the Dragon Age franchise to unsuspecting passers-by!

VP Academic - Colin enright

Picture
Colin is in his fourth year of Music Education, majoring in voice, with a minor in French Language & Literature. This will be Colin’s first year on MEdUSA as Vice President Academic, and he is looking forward to seeing to all your curricular needs. Colin works in various offices around McGill, but if on the rare occasion you can find him wandering around the music building, he is more than happy to stop and chat or help out in whatever way he can. His favourite pass times include playing board games, sobbing in practice rooms, playing video games, crying about elephants, watching garbage tv, yelling, and humming every song ever in the wrong key.

VP Professional Development - Douglas Giroux

Picture
Doug is in his final year of music education at McGill. This is his second year on the MEdUSA council. He likes to bake, cook, and live his life like his mentor and spirit animal: Martha Stewart. When Doug isn't busying himself in the kitchen, he can be found caterwauling with various Montreal choirs or engaging in profound philosophical dialogues with his cats. Feel free to say hi to him when you see him sauntering around the Education Buildings!

Heather is in her third year of Music Education, majoring on the euphonium. This is her third year on the MEdUSA council and she is looking forward to her new role as President! If you have any questions, concerns, complaints, compliments or really bad puns, feel free to email her at medusa.mcgill@gmail.com or stop her in the hallway. She'll be the short one singing to herself. When Heather isn't discovering new and creative ways to carry around multiple instruments and a backpack (hint: you can open doors with your feet!), she can be found playing video games, watching TV shows set in space, or freaking out about the Dragon Age franchise to unsuspecting passers-by!

Vp Social - Naomi Garrett

Picture
Naomi is in her fourth year of the concurrent Music Education program and her second year on the MEdUSA council. People seem to like her because she is polite and she is rarely late. She likes to eat ice cream and she really enjoys a nice pair of slacks. When not teaching music in the Montreal area or swamped in school work, Naomi can be found drinking tea, watching Downton Abbey in her footed penguin onesie. As VP Social, Naomi is in charge of making sure you get to meet other Music Ed Students throughout the year at MEdUSA's famous parties (yay parties!) and events, as well as the recent alumni from the program who can give you life advice about the great unknown (life after graduation)! She is very excited for another great year with all of you. See you all in the 8th floor lounge! :)

VP Finance - Gillian Chen

Picture
Gillian is in her fourth year of Music Education majoring on the violin. As VP Finance of MEdUSA for two years in a row now, she is excited to be working closely with the council to support the Music Education Community! When Gillin isn't busy running between classes and work, she can be found surfing imgur and staring at internet cats. Gillian hangs around the music cafe a lot, so don't hesitate to stop her for a chat, or to address any questions or concerns!

First Year Representative- Trevor Tsui

VP Communications - Kathleen Booth

Picture
Kathleen is in her fourth year of music education at McGill and in her second year on the council. As VP Communications, she's the one who will answer all your questions and answer all your emails. When she’s not participating in general tomfoolery, she plays the trumpet at McGill. A person of many talents, she is able to say supercalifragilisticexpialidocious backwards properly, and play tag-teamed bassoon with Peter Freeman. She is very excited to be a part of the MEdUSA team again! Come by the office and say hi, as long as you don't mind her freaking out about corgis and Julie Andrews!

VP Academic - Doug Giroux

Picture
Doug is in his fifth year of music education, majoring in classical guitar. This is his first year on the MEdUSA council. He likes to bake, cook, and live his life like his mentor and spirit animal: Martha Stewart. Feel free to say hi to him when you see him sauntering around the Music or Education Buildings!

VP Professional Development - Becky 'tmannetje

Picture
Becky is in her fourth and final year of Music Education majoring on the flute (though according to Peter Freeman, she is now a clarinetist and a saxophonist, too). It is her fourth year on the MEdUSA council and her first year as VP Professional Development. She is looking forward to planning fun and informative workshops for McGill's music education students, aka YOU! When she isn't running around or hiding out on rooftops, she's either shopping for purple clothing, doing gigs with the military, practicing her French, or finding things to add to her schedule to make her life more hectic

Minor in Music ed representative - Chris Middleton

MEdUSA 2013-2014

President - Becky 'tMannetje

Picture
Becky is in her third year of Music Education majoring on flute (though according to Peter Freeman, she is now a clarinetist and saxophonist, too). It is her third year on the MEdUSA council and her second year as President, and she is looking forward to creating connections between Montreal’s music education community and McGill’s music education students, aka YOU! For any and all complaints, comments, or just a good ol’ chat, feel free to send her an email or shout her down in the hallway. When she isn’t committing herself to some quality time with her instruments or smiling at anyone who passes by, she’s either shopping for purple clothing, doing gigs with the military, practicing her French, or finding things to add to her schedule and make her life more hectic.

Co-VP Social - Chris Middleton

Picture
Chris is in his third year of Music Education at McGill majoring in Percussion with a minor in Music Tech. As Co-VP Social of this fine council we call MEdUSA, he promises to provide you with the most banging parties this side of the Music Building! When he is not busy planning parties and sampling drinks (for science…) Chris can be found; saving the tri-state area from the evil Dr. Doofenshmirtz, wearing plaid (mostly Buffalo Check, with the occasional Tartan Plaid… I’m no animal), and being Batman (not like Christian Bale Batman, more like alternative universe Flashpoint Batman). He is looking forward to the wonderful (drunken) year ahead! Come stop by the office and say hi (BYOB).

VP Finance - Gillian Chen

Picture
Gillian is in her third year of Music Education majoring on the Violin. Being her first year in the MEDUSA council, she is excited to be working closely with her fellow Music Education execs to help the music ed community and its needs. When Gillian isn't busy calculating money in the corner, she can be found laughing at internet memes (McGill Music Memes!!), playing computer games, or relaxing with a mug of tea while derping. Gillian is very often found in the music building/area, so don't hesitate to stop her for a chat or ask any questions/concerns!

Co-VP Social - David Peretz-Larochelle

Picture
David is in his third year of Music Education majoring on percussion. It is his first year on the council as Co-VP social, and he is excited to work with the (awesome) MEDUSA team to provide you with entertainment! If he is not in class or planning the next event, he is most likely teaching teenagers how to play percussion at Collège Notre-Dame. Born and raised in Montréal, David will always be glad to teach you some french on the side (and some alpine skiing if you're interested!). Always glad to meet new people, he encourages to come have a chat with him!

VP Academic - Naomi Garrett

Picture
Naomi is in her third year of the Music Ed program and her first year on the MEdUSA council. People seem to like her because she is polite and she is rarely late. She likes to eat ice cream and she really enjoys a nice pair of slacks. Sometimes she plays violin, sometimes viola, while other times, she’s singing to Jack Johnson while making banana pancakes and pretending it’s the weekend now. As VP Academic, Naomi is in charge of taking care of your suggestions and needs regarding our program and courses, as well as representing Music Ed on the EdUS council.

VP Communications - Heather Worling

Picture
Heather is in her second year of Music Education, majoring in the euphonium. This is her second year on the MEdUSA council and she is looking forward to becoming more involved in the music ed community. If you have any questions, concerns, complaints, or compliments feel free to email her at medusa.mcgill@gmail.com or stop her in the hallway. When Heather isn't busy figuring out how she's going to carry around multiple instruments and a backpack, she can be found playing video games, watching TV shows set in space, or quoting said TV shows at unsuspecting passersby.

VP Professional Development - Kathleen Booth

Picture
Kathleen is in her third year of music education at McGill and in her first year in the position of VP Professional Development on MEdUSA. When she’s not participating in general tomfoolery, she plays the trumpet at McGill. A person of many talents, she is able to say supercalifragilisticexpialidocious backwards properly, play tag-teamed bassoon with Peter Freeman, and has an uncanny ability to make obscure references that no one understands. She is very excited to be a part of the MEdUSA council this year! Come by the office and say hi!

First Year Representative - Wesley Dunham

Picture
Wes is in his first year of Music Education, majoring in baritone voice. He is the newest and youngest member of the council. As First Year Representative, he helps them with any questions or problems they may have, and encourages them to get involved. He would love to help you in any way possible, or even just grab a coffee with you. Wes hails from North Attleborough, Massachusetts, approximately 30 minutes south of Boston. He is a Cancer who enjoys long walks on the beach, skiing, and singing in Tonal Ecstasy, McGill’s oldest A Cappella group. He is so excited to be a part of the MEdUSA Council this year and cannot wait to get to know all of the Music Education students!

MEdUSA 2012-2013 COUNCIL

Picture

President - Becky 'tMannetje

Picture
Becky is in her second year of Music Education majoring on flute (though according to Peter Freeman, she is now a clarinetist and saxophonist, too). It is her second year on the MEdUSA council and she is looking forward to creating connections between Montreal’s music education community and McGill’s music education students, aka YOU! For any and all complaints, comments, or just a good ol’ chat, feel free to send her an email or shout her down in the hallway. When she isn’t committing herself to some quality time with her instruments or smiling at anyone who passes by, she’s either shopping for purple clothing, doing gigs with the military, practising her French, or finding things to add to her schedule and make her life more hectic.

VP Academic - Sarah Caruso

Picture
Sarah is in her sixth year of the Music Ed program and on the MEdUSA Council for her second year (though she's been slaving away at their world-renowned grilled cheese sales for years. Who ordered the Greg Webber Special?). As VP Academic she looks out for the interests of our program, looking into any course changes that will help improve the concurrent Music Education program for our students, as well as serving as liaison on the EdUS Council. Outside of school you might find her playing video games (on any number of systems; she has four), obsessing over a recent TV show addiction, reading novels in Italian, cooking to Frank Sinatra, or doing a Disney Power Hour.

Co-VP Social - Dan Duguay

Picture
Dan’s in his 4th year of the Music Ed. Program and a second timer on the MEdUSA council. As Co-VP Social, he helps plan MEdUSA’s amazing social events and throws parties like a pro. He’s the council’s token French and leading expert on solving Rubik's cubes, mixing terrible Old Fashioneds, and speaking broken English. On weekends, you can find him at school teaching 3 year olds how to sing “Frère Jacques” with choreography. If you have any questions, feel free to yell at him in the hallway or drop by during his office hours. No French required.

Co-VP Social - Sean Mayes

Picture
Sean is in his final year of Music Ed and is honoured to have the opportunity to serve as one of your VP Socials for the 2012-2013 year. He is thrilled to have the opportunity to give back to the program and community that has given him so much. He looks forward to celebrating at this year's events and welcomes any suggestions from the Music Ed community on how to make our events even more awesome ! In his spare time, Sean enjoys playing and conducting musicals around the city and teaching piano.

VP Communications - Liz Huyer

Picture
Liz is back for her 5th and final year on the MEdUSA executive. Armed with coffee and boomwhackers, she's ready to keep the council on track as VP Communications. Look forward to hearing from Liz via the monthly E-News, and don't hesitate to contact her (at medusa.mcgill@gmail.com) if you have any questions, suggestions, or anything to complain about! ;)

Co-VP Professional Development - Sam Parent

Picture
Samantha Parent is a fifth year Music Education student who is currently completing her third and fourth teaching placements. She also loves the obscurity and beauty of the classical saxophone and thinking of ways to make your year super exciting and enlightening as the Co-VP of Professional Development. This is Sam’s second year on M.Ed.U.S.A. and she is excited to provide you with new and dynamic workshops to help prepare you for the real world of teaching. Don’t be afraid to stop her in the halls and suggest any workshops or master class events you would love to see happen or message her through the M.Ed.U.S.A. email. Besides M.Ed.U.S.A. and the world of music education, Sam enjoys many sports, conducting, and photography so don’t be alarmed when she snaps a few shots of all your smiling faces at the awesome events we have planned.

Co-VP Professional Development - Nathan Rickey

Picture
Nathan is currently in his fourth year of McGill's Concurrent Music Education program. His passion for learning and exploring within the field makes him thrilled to take on the role of Co-VP Professional Development. He aims to supplement the curriculum with enriching workshops that will inform and inspire. During his free time, Nathan loves conducting, teaching music/guitar classes and reading. He looks forward to seeing you at this year's upcoming workshops!

VP Finance - Diana Gorham

Picture
Diana is back for her third year in the Music Education program with a concentration on oboe, and her third year on the MEdUSA council. As VP Finance, Diana will crunching the numbers for MEdUSA, with the hopes of maximizing the possibilities for awesome times to be had. Outside of MEdUSA, you can often find her chatting with friends, trying to solve a rubik's cube, watching Survivor, or playing old-school Nintendo games. Feel free to say hi, ask any questions, or just hang out!

First Year Representative - Heather Worling

Picture
Heather is in her first year of Music Education majoring on the euphonium (the what?). She is excited to be a part of MEdUSA and encourages her fellow first years to come to as many events as possible! Please send me an email or stop me in the hall if you want any information about anything. When she’s not busy playing her euphonium (seriously, is that even an instrument?) she enjoys playing video games, reading, and watching shows set in space.

MEdUSA 2011-2012 COUNCIL

Picture

President - LIZ HUYER

Picture
Elizabeth is in her 4th year of the Music Ed program, with a concentration in flute, and a minor in French language and literature. This is her fourth year on the council, and she’s looking forward to making sure that MEdUSA stays connected with the great opportunities in Montreal’s music education community. When she’s not preoccupied with MEdUSA biz, you will often find Liz knitting, listening to Simon & Garfunkel, or baking cookies!

Co-VP Professional Development - Emily Curtis

Picture
Emily is in her billionth year of music education and is looking forward to hosting more fantastic workshops to supplement the curriculum while providing diverse educational experiences for pre-service teachers. Some events this year include an instrumental conducting master class with Alain Cazes and the McGill University Wind Symphony and another Fantabulous Drumline Experience.  When she finds time to venture outside of the Schulich School of Music, Emily finds endless joy teaching piano at Share the Warmth in Pointe St- Charles. Some personal goals for her this year include hiking the cliffs of the Saguenay Fjord and learning to balance on her hands.

Co-VP Professional Development - Sam Parent

Picture
Samantha Parent is a fourth year Music Education student who loves the obscurity and beauty of the classical saxophone and thinking of ways to make your year super exciting and enlightening as the Co-VP of Professional Development. This is Sam’s first year on M.Ed.U.S.A., but she feels that any lack of experience she makes up in enthusiasm and dedication to a job well done. Don’t be afraid to stop her in the halls and suggest any workshops or master class events you would love to see happen. Besides M.Ed.U.S.A. and the world of music education, Sam enjoys many sports and photography so don’t be alarmed when she snaps a few shots of all your smiling faces at the awesome events we have planned.

Sarah is in her fifth year of the Music Ed program and on the MEdUSA Council for the very first time (though she's been slaving away at their world-renowned grilled cheese sales for years. Who ordered the Greg Webber Special?). As VP Communications she will do her best to take up the mantle of the great Liz Lanzer, making sure everything behind the scenes runs smoothly so you can all get your recommended dose of MEdUSA awesomeness. Watch out for her monthly E-News emails detailing all of the events, workshops and exciting things coming up from MEdUSA. Outside of school you might find her playing video games (on any number of systems; she has four), obsessing over a recent TV show addiction, reading novels in Italian, cooking to Frank Sinatra, or doing a Disney Power Hour.

VP Human Resources - Dan Duguay

Picture
Dan’s in his 3rd year of the Music Ed. Program and a first timer on the MEdUSA council. As VP Human Resources, it’s his responsibility to keep in touch with Music Educators outside of McGill, update the MEdUSA database and help you find a job.

First Year Representative - Becky 'tMannetje

Picture
Becky is in her first year of Music Education majoring on flute, though she won’t be letting go of her beloved piano any time soon. She is super excited to be representing all of her fellow first years in the MEdUSA council. So please, stop her for a chat or send her an email – she’d love to get to know you over a hot chocolate or some other sweet treat at Timmys! When she’s not committing herself to some quality time with her instruments or smiling at anyone who passes by, she’s either dreaming about her furry loved ones at home, doing gigs with the military, practising her French, or finding more things to add to her schedule and make her life more hectic.

Gavin Hartney - VP Social

No one believed it was possible, but Gavin is FINALLY in her fifth year of Music Education. This will be her second year as your VP Social and third year on the Executive Council. Gavin plans to continue with the madness and throw FOUR super-ridiculously awesome social events this year. If you’ve been to a MEdUSA social event in the past two years, you know that super-ridiculously awesome is no exaggeration. Although Gavin loves MEdUSA like no other, she does participate in life outside of Music Education. If you happen to come across her, she could be doing any number of things, like sweating through a terrible run around the Plateau, rocking out to Billy Joel, or whipping up an unnecessarily elaborate meal. You might also encounter her feline partner in crime, Beauregard!

President - Liz Huyer

Picture
Liz is back on the bandwagon this year for another round as MEdUSA President, and ready to represent YOU! She’s here to get us more connected to the Montreal music education community, and do her best to make sure that every student’s time at McGill is well spent!! Whether you find Liz wandering aimlessly around the music library, or dodging Sherbrooke traffic to “get her coffee on,” please make sure to complain incessantly to her about anything bugging you about the program – it’s what she lives for ;)

VP Professional Development - Emily Curtis

Picture
Emily is in her fifth year of music education and is looking forward to hosting more fantastic workshops to supplement the curriculum and provide diverse educational experiences for pre-service teachers. Some events this year include a body percussion workshop with Cuban percussionist Alejandro Cespedes Pazos and a choral conducting masterclass with Francois Ouimet and the University Choir. When she finds time to venture outside of the Schulich School of Music, Emily finds endless joy teaching piano at Share the Warmth in Pointe St- Charles. Some personal goals for her this year include hiking the cliffs of the Saguenay Fjord and learning to balance on her hands.

VP Human Resources - Daniela Alongi

Picture
Daniela is in her final year at McGill and is here to help you find a teaching gig! In contact with many teachers in the Montreal district and involved in both the Quebec band association and Fameq. Have a job or stage related question? Daniela will most likely be able to help. Being on stage this year you will most likely never see her around school. She is extremely excited to be almost done, yet, she misses being around McGill. Feel free to e-mail or stop her in the hallway if you happen to see her. There is a light at the end of the tunnel and she is there to make your life a little easier. We have such a wonderful program and the Medusa team is here to help in anyway possible. Sharing our passion for music to our students is our goal!

VP Communications - Liz Lanzer

Picture
Elizabeth is in her fifth year of Music Education at McGill...finally. For her third year running on the council, she is STILL working to grant the execs the office space they rightfully deserve. She also looks forward to doing more legal paperwork, having even more meetings with the big-wigs of the McGill music department, continuing to serve as representative on the EdUS council, and making relationships with Montreal initiatives and other universities from all over the place. You will probably never see Elizabeth around school as once you get into your final two years, for some reason, you tend to disappear, BUT if you do see her at some point feel free to ask lots of course scheduling questions, ask for a spare crossword puzzle, or even for a knitting pattern because she will likely give you answers and results and perhaps give you an earful on the subject while she's at it.

 First Year Representative -
Diana Gorham

Gavin Hartney - VP Social

Gavin is in her fourth year of Music Education and is totally pumped about being VP Social this year. She has made it her personal goal to schedule at least two ridiculously awesome events for each semester - so you better be ready to party. Besides attending MEdUSA meetings, Gavin does little else with her life. If you happen to run into her, you might find her playing Monopoly, torturing her cat, Beauregard, or eating a chicken salad sandwich.

Elizabeth (Liz) is in her second year of Music Education and is excited to be back on MEdUSA! She is looking forward to seeing MEdUSA grow this year, and wants to make sure that we remain open to opportunities in Montreal's music education community, as well as provide helpful services FOR music ed. students, FROM music ed. students. Aside from MEdUSA, Liz enjoys knitting, listening to Simon & Garfunkel, and hugs.

VP Professional Development -
Emily Curtis

Picture
Emily Curtis is a fourth year music education student from Toronto, Ontario. It is her intention to provide this year's students with both exciting, innovative guest speakers as well as travel opportunities to conferences for music educators. Proficient on clarinet, including bass and contrabass clarinet, and piano, Emily's love for music stems from many musical genres including, but not limited to, classical, jazz, electronic, hip hop and reggae. In her spare time, Emily likes to escape the perpetually hectic, cement lacquered city to embark on outdoor adventures including hiking, canoeing, camping, and extreme, off-trail snowboarding. Other hobbies include flying trapeze and tree climbing.

VP Finance - Vanessa Coderre

Picture
Vanessa is in her first year in music education. She will be proudly budgeting MEdUSA's money so we get awesome activities. In MEdUSA, she will also act as the official french-english translator and Costco buyer. Let her know if you have amazing ideas for fundraisers or other stuff. When she is not busy doing school stuff, she also enjoys going her hometown in the countryside, annoying her brother and talking. She is very happy to be in MEdUSA this year.

VP Communications - Elizabeth Lanzer

Picture
Elizabeth is in her fourth year of music education and is back at it for a second time around in MedUSA! She is looking to help promote and improve organization and the much needed communication within the faculty along with her fellow MedUSA members and music ed. students. In her spare time she likes to do rather boring things like doing puzzles, watching shows on the discovery channel, knitting, and bread baking!

VP Social - Eric Sheehan

Picture
Eric is in his second year of Music Ed with a concentration in classical voice and is definitely excited to be serving on MedUSA for the first time. He's looking forward to planning and executing the best social events you've ever been to, and can't wait to meet everyone that makes MEdUSA so powerful and awe-inspiring. Please don't hesitate to let Eric know how he can make your events more eventful, as he is always looking for input (or questions, etc.) from fellow students. When not with MedUSA, Eric thoroughly enjoys a good sing, a good game of speed Scrabble (NB: speed Scrabble), a good stroll down St-Denis, or a YouTube infomercial for a revolutionary kitchen appliance.

Gavin Hartney - VP Human Resources

Gavin is in her third year of Music Education and is super stoked about her first year on MEdUSA. She is especially interested in making connections between the Montreal school systems and all of you, especially if that means finding YOU work experience. She's pretty lame, so aside from school and MEdUSA, Gavin spends her time with her cat, Beauregard, and her three plants, Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. Oh, and she's always up for a game of Monopoly and a Rice Krispie Treat.

As VP Professional Development, Rob has several guest speakers, trips and workshops lined up for the music education area, one of which will be presented by music education students to working teachers, so stay tuned!

VP Social - Allison Hess

Picture
Allison is excited to be representing MEdUSA this year. When she's not showing you love, Allison is probably singing her heart out while walking down Sherbrooke. She says, "This year will be an awesome one for Music Education students at McGill, with lots of opportunities for professional development, clear and concise program guidelines, and many themed social events." If you need anything, don't be afraid to ask. Allison's here for the people.

VP Professional Development - Chantelle Edwards

Picture
Hi!  I’m in my 3rd year of music ed., majoring in Clarinet with a minor in Sociology.  As VP Professional Development, I intend to ask you, the students, which areas of development are most important to you and then I will plan interesting seminars and trips to conferences based on this input. I’ve been known to a) be totally coffee dependent, b) complain incessantly about trekking up to the Ed. building and c) tempt fate daily while crossing Sherbrooke as dangerously as possible.

VP Finance - Brad Melaugh

I'm in my fourth year of the B.Mus/B.Ed concurrent program with a concentration in piano. I come from  a far away land called Sharon (it's in Massachusetts...that's in the US.) As VP Finance, I hope to make all your financial dreams come true, within reason...so be nice!

Speaker - Candace Yeh

Picture
Instrument: Clarinet
Year: Fourth Year (Man, I'm old)
Hometown: West Windsor Plainsboro... Princeton, NJ, States
About Me: I enjoy walking all around Montreal, making new friends, helping out first years, getting involved in student politics, participating in long meetings, etc. I like to think I'm fun. Please see Facebook to indulge in your stalking delights.
Portfolio: I delegate meetings to make sure that the executives stay on topic, and prevent the meetings from being six hours long. I also introduce the executives to a mild set of Robert's Rules and meeting protocol. I will also be planning a retreat in which executives will be able to carry on for the rest of the year in a professional, democratic, and fair way.

VP Communications - Aran Bangs

Picture
I'm in my third year of study at McGill in music education, majoring in flute. I'm from Hawkesbury (aka: Smalltown), Ontario. I'm very excited to be starting this year with MEdUSA and look foward to getting to know the music education community at McGill much better. What I think is the best thing since sliced bread: Post-It notes.

VP Pedagogical Development - Brianne Whyte

Picture
Hey there! I’m in my 4th year in Music Education I hail from Scarborough, Ontario and play the viola. What does VP Pedagogical Development do, you say?  Well, if you’re interested in enhancing your pedagogical skills, (and perhaps making a little money at the same time,) by doing clinics and workshops in local schools, tutoring, and volunteering your teaching expertise, I’m your girl!  Aside from MEdUSA, I enjoy sharks, physical contact, sarcasm, and you. If you ever need a hug, or a little back rub, please come to me because affection is what I do best. (Seriously, though, I really like it.)

VP Social - Liz Lanzer

Picture
My name is Lizz Lanzer, and I am entering 2nd year as an alto saxophone player. I'm from Durham, New Hampshire in the States (right by the beach!). My goals for the association are to strengthen the communication and flow of information within the department and association, and to establish a stable and welcoming music education community within the McGill faculties as well as in the Montreal area. I also intend to improve upon the connection of jazz and music education to my fullest ability. The ultimate Ben and Jerry's flavor is totally chubby hubby.
