Announcements:
First meeting of the year!
Approval of Agenda: Agenda approved by Naomi and seconded by Doug
Agenda & Proceedings:
Academic
- First Year Advising Session: tomorrow at 10am in C412. Everyone should be there (except for Heather). Have copies of footbook ready to hand out. Becky will introduce MEdUSA to the froshies. Impromptu first year hang out right after in C-412. Will arrange for pizza to arrive 10:45 for the hour between 11am-12pm when they will continue frosh activities. Will order 5 jumbo or 6 extra large pizzas.
General
- Little Musicians: Job posting for Little Musicians - applications due 31st August. Becky sent an email to the GA about the posting and it is posted on the MEdUSA page.
- ENEWS: Will go out first week of school.
- Elections for Reps: Heather will take care of it. Rep for: Advanced placement, minor rep, first year rep. “Have form in by this date” format for all reps. Have forms in by the 19th of September so that the reps can be announced at that event.
Professional Development
- Conducting Symposium: Planning a Montreal conducting symposium. June 25-28 2015. Conductors: Alain Cazes, Jonathan Dagenais + guest conductor. Want MEdUSA to be involved through: volunteers at the events, musicians for the ensembles, advertising, promotion within the school etc. Still in planning stages.
- Workshops: QBA mentor workshops: Valerie Lepage and/or Phil Legault - topics would be fundraising/organizing a bandtrip. Stephane Crete - ideas up in the air still. Perhaps something about working with children with disabilities. MEdUSA funded workshops still under consideration.
- current speculation for timing: end of September, around thanksgiving, in November
- Dr. Dale Lonis: Dr. Lonis will be conducting the QBA sr. honour band this year. Last year he did a masterclass and a workshop at mcgill. Perhaps we can get him in again for a masterclass. Perhaps next semester Jan/Feb.
Social:
- First Year Event: Tentative date: 26th of September. Tentative: 8th Floor Lounge once Naomi speaks to Dean Ferguson.
