Agenda & Proceedings:
VP Social
- First Year Social: Couldn’t get a meeting with the police for the liquor license. Need approval from building director, landlord, McGill security, and police. Can’t serve alcohol after 21:00. We need the police approval by tomorrow, so Becky is going. Then Chris will drop off the paperwork. Other than this, everything’s going well! They still need to do the event proposal, by the end of the week.
- Extra Project: Every month we could have an unofficial music ed event (movies, bowling, etc), which is not funded through MEdUSA but will get everyone involved. “Music Ed Goes…”
VP Finance
- MUSA Finance Meeting: Met with MUSA finance people. MUSA was confused too, so they didn’t have a lot of answers. They should email her next week. She also hasn’t heard from EdUS. Naomi will bring it to the EdUS meeting. Gill has to bring the music ed minors to the MUSA meeting to talk about it. We’re not getting our own checking account, we’ll still use MUSA’s.
- Sweaters: EdUS hasn’t gotten back to her about sweaters either. We have the order form now. It’s $50 for each sweater. We’ll probably charge more so that we have a safety net and that we can make a little money. We’ll start promoting at the end of September and order at the beginning of October.
- Cashbox: We’re going to install a lock on our new cabinet, so we can keep the cashbox there.
VP Academic
- EdUS Report: BBQ is from 11-14. Naomi is going to help set up. We have a table. The BBQ starts at 12, so we’ll try to be there for then. Heather won’t be there. We can wear EdUS swag since we don’t have any of our own. The library didn’t close, but the hours are reduced and some books are moved, but not ones anyone used. All the children’s books are staying. There are NO 24 hour libraries on campus at all. They’re having a DUSTED. They go to a random small town and drink a bar dry. It will either be October 20 or 27. October 4 is Education Pride Day. Wear Red for Ed! There will be giveaways and a pancake breakfast. If you wear red you’ll get a raffle ticket to get a ed sweater.
- Feedback Forms: They’re photocopied. We’ll put them on the window
- Education First Year Council: They’re trying to make a first year council. They want our first year rep to be on it. They would try to fix first year problems. We’ve considered it and said no.
VP Communications
- Emails: I’ll look in gmail to figure out the confusing names.
- Enews: It’s almost done. Naomi and Chris will get me the last blurbs right after this meeting so I can send it out when I get home.
VP Prof Dev
- Percussion Repair Workshop: Wednesday October 9, 18:00-20:00. C-310 is booked so we’re going to book another room on the third floor. Shawn wants a rough number, so we asked people to RSVP
- QBA Workshops: They are not responding to any emails Kathleen’s sending. Kathleen is going to try phoning people. Becky will mention this to Teresea.
- QMEA Rep (Extra Project): Kathleen will be doing this and will be our liaison with QMEA. Bring up our CMEA chapter application.
President
- The Big Move: Thanks to everyone who helped out! It went well and went quickly. We’re all moved in!
- Meeting with the Dean: Becky met with the Dean and Nancy about a lack of communication and about the office move. Becky’s goal was to get more communication. Apparently MUSA and the Dean had a meeting every month, but now it will be with the associate dean every two weeks and the dean every term. We are not allowed to be in these meetings because we represent such a small portion of the students. Becky has a meeting on October 30 at 16:00 and wants Naomi to come with her.
- Council Retreat: The subcommittee met on Monday to plan. The notes are on Google Drive.
- Dr. Dale Lonis: There is a workshop on Friday October 4 at 9:30-11:00. The topic is something like “Conducting in a School Band Setting.” It will be on the school side of things than technique, which is done more with Alain. There will probably also be a master class that day with Wind Symph. It will only be a few people. That would be from 11:30-13:30. This is whoever applies first.
- Office Hours/Key from Building Director: Still no office hours because we don’t have enough keys yet. Hopefully that will be by the end of the week. Becky will send out the office hours. Hopefully they will start on Monday.
- QBA Meet and Greet: Lisa is meeting people at 15:45 in the old lobby to go the restaurant. Heather and Becky are going.
- QMEA Fundraiser: Becky will send out a video to us. It’s an ad for El Sistema. We need to provide feedback on the video.
- Next Meeting: 15:45 next Friday, subject to change.
Adjournment: Becky motions to close the meeting at 20:26, Naomi seconds
