Agenda & Proceedings:
Professional Development
- Share the Warmth - An El Sistema-based Montreal organization interested in a partnership with MEdUSA. Becky was approached by a member at the Sistema conference. See: email for details. They are looking for volunteers for their program. A blurb will be entered in our ENEWS to spark interest in the music education faculty. We can arrange for a Volunteer Fair, to let everyone in the music faculty know what is going on in the Music Ed faculty and a chance to get involved in organizations we are a part of.
- Yellow Door - Specialize in social experiences for the elderly in isolation. They do art clubs, movie clubs, book clubs etc, and try to get McGill students to visit them and help them out for more socialization for the elderly. We can consider pursuing a relationship with them. They are looking to get the seniors more social and involved. Perhaps music lessons or a concert or a choir etc.
- Drum Circle Facilitation - March 30, 6:30-8pm, C-309. With Shawn Mativetsky. Payment process has begun. Pre-requisite for the workshop: MUIT 204 Percussion Techniques, so RSVP registration will be required. Shawn suggested having a practice circle to practice facilitation. With this, we can open up the role of facilitator for the exam drum circles.
- MEdUSA Workshops - Wrap up from the February 19th Workshop “Teaching theory effectively in a group setting” with Shelagh McKibbon-U’Ren. 12 people were in attendance. There is another workshop coming up on March 23rd, 5:30 pm in A-410.
“Working with Children with Special Needs in the Music Classroom” with Elizabeth Lanzer.
Finance
- Grilled Cheese - Gill is going to check the float again to resolve a discrepancy in the cashbox. Total revenue will be available next meeting.
Social
- Showcase - Date has been moved for April 14th. The room is only available after 6pm, but Naomi is going to contact Isabelle Cossette to see if she can get the room earlier. She will also talk to Dean Ferguson to see if we are able to do performances in the room. Call for performers will be in ENEWS (and whiteboard). We are not ordering any alcohol and we will use the leftovers from previous parties .
Academic
- Meeting with the Dean - Naomi managed to get a meeting with the Dean. Next Friday at 3:30. Naomi and Doug will be in attendance. What to talk about at the meeting:
- Performing in 8th floor lounge
- Drum Circle
- New Horizons? (email Audrey re: anything they want to say. It has become a special project)
- Share the Warmth and Yellow Door
