Agenda & Proceedings:
VP Social
- Festivus: We’re all booked! And Lisa’s getting the liquor license. Festivus will start at 7, not 6 like was stated in the Enews.
- Music Ed Goes: This Saturday is karaoke! Chris can’t make the beginning of it, so we’re going to move the time back to 22:30.
VP Finance
- EdUS Proposal: This is to receive 100% fees from EdUS. Gill has some points to make the proposal.
- Budget: Gill revised again with new updates. There are two choices: either we take out the transportation costs, or we cover them using a grilled cheese sale.
VP Communications
- Office: Kathleen and Heather were in the office last week and Shawn Mativetsky came and told us that the office across from his (the old Alexis Carter office) is empty. He suggested we could apply to have it as a MEdUSA office. However, we think that is better to be in the cafeteria. Becky proposed that instead we ask for it to become a new percussion room (replacing the closet). We will talk to Shawn when he gets back about this and see what he thinks.
VP Academic
- QMEA Fundraiser: Naomi went to the QMEA fundraiser. The price is now $20 in person and $25 online. They are still going to sell online, but the emphasis will be on physical sales. The physical selling is starting November 21 at QPAT (teacher’s union), where Theodora is speaking. We will have some on hand in the office so we can sell them during office hours to McGill students. The only problem is what to do with the money. We found a solution. They ordered the keyrings, but they can’t be shipped to Canada. Luckily someone on QMEA has a PO Box in the US. The keyrings won’t get here until December. We are going to sell the necklaces at Festivus. Naomi is also going to try and get permission to sell them outside of the MGSO concerts. Before we start selling necklaces out of the office, we have to get a receipt book. There will also be a Google Doc shared between us and QMEA and everytime we sell a necklace, we have to put it on there.
- Course Concerns: Naomi needs a solid list of all the concerns so she can email Lisa. We made a list that’s on Google Drive.
- EdUS Report: They are doing Movember full force. There’s a bake sale tomorrow and a flag football competition from 9-5 on Saturday on Lower Field. Come to the Mech Ed ball! Naomi joined their constitution and bylaws subcommittee, but they haven’t met.
VP Professional Development
- Alain Juteau Workshop: It was last week. It went really well. There were 8 people there and the feedback was good. We think the time wasn’t that great which is why there weren’t as many people there. Also, Teresa says that we can’t have workshops on Mondays anymore because she can’t go. We should add his handout to the resource library.
- QMEA Report: See QMEA fundraiser. They are on their way to getting charitable status, or looking into other options (like Viva Sistema splitting from QMEA).
- Stephane Crete: Kathleen heard back from him. He is available Wednesday November 27. Kathleen suggested 18:00 and is waiting to hear from him. The topic is Technology in the Music Classroom.
President
- GA: It’s on Tuesday at 17:00 in the Music Caf. There are no excuses not to be there. Use Tanya as an example: she moved a root canal appointment to be there. There’s free pizza. Promote it to both your classes and to individuals. Tell them why we need so many people. Tell them of our plight!
- MEdUSA Publicity: Becky was looking for McGill Music Ed on Google and found Engage McGill (an official McGill page). She found a section on us, but the information was all wrong. Becky emailed them and everything is now changed. MUSA has updated their website, and we now have our own tab on the main page!
- Body Percussion Workshop: Lisa is teaching the Issues class. La Bottine Souriante is a Quebec folk music group that Lisa mentioned. Sandy Silva is a percussionist in the group. She is coming to give a workshop on November 26 from 13:30-15:00 in Wirth. It is open to everyone.
- Next Meeting: Same time same place!
Adjournment: Becky motions to close the meeting at 18:02, David seconds.
