Agenda & Proceedings:
Professional Development:
- Handbell Workshop: Lisa spoke about Handbell Workshops and how awesome the program is. Will be considered for a MEdUSA funded workshop for the Winter semester, but there are already workshops set up for this year. Will be tabled as an extra.
- QBA Mentor Workshop: First workshop had to be cancelled, unfortunately. Becky is actively working to set up the first one with a QBA mentor hopefully before Thanksgiving.
- QBA Meet and Greet: Went really well! Extra membership forms and bookmarks with QBA event dates on it, as well as conference registration forms. During office hours, promote the conference and membership to the music ed community through distribution of the forms/bookmarks.
Social:
- Welcome Back Cocktail: Naomi ordered all of the booze through Lisa. Naomi will make a poster that will go out on Monday. The RSVP email will go out on Monday. Council will promote the event in their classes. The event is scheduled for 26th September, 7pm, 8th floor lounge. Naomi will talk to Peter Whiteman regarding the class that has the lounge booked right before our event.
- Festivus: Naomi has booked the 8th floor lounge for December 5th from 3pm-close. Douglas will not be in attendance.
General:
- Elections: Due next week. Get your stuff in and promote it to potential reps. Heather has scouted a first year who seems interested. The minor rep has one applicant so far.
- Office Hours: Starting this week, following the doodle schedule filled out by the council members. Office hours will have to be made for the reps once the positions are filled.
- Extra Projects: Heather made a list! Some of the list must be done. Naomi will be running drum circle, Becky is the QBA rep, Doug is the QMEA rep, Kathleen will be EdUS rep, Heather will be photographer, Gill is going to work on the SSMU funds. First report due October 1st.
- Homework: Reminder: when the homework is completed, colour it a different colour. If anything extra has been done, it must be added by the council member and changed colour. Homework goes out very soon after the meetings.
- Semester Proposals: Social, Professional Development, Finance need to do semester proposals regarding funds and events. Due October 1st.
- Viva Sistema Fundraiser: Necklace fundraiser is over. Must be taken down off the website. Doug will send the funds raised to the QMEA.
- Retreat! 2014: Details still need to be ironed out. Not actually “going” to a retreat. After Little Musicians on the 27th of September, will be doing a big meeting then getting dinner/hangouts. First option is Heather’s apartment, fallback is Naomi’s.
- Sweaters: Gill will email VP Health & Rec of MUSA and sort out details regarding sweaters and how MUSA is doing their fundraiser. Gill will also email EdUS about getting music ed clothing under their large order. We think it`s a great idea to have fun music ed clothing for our faculty
- Recruitment Table: On recruitment day (October 26th from 10am-4pm). MEdUSA will have a table set up in the lobby of the New Building to talk to prospective music education students. Heather and Kathleen will be the table people.
Next Meeting: 4pm, 18th September, 2014.
Adjournment: Becky motions to close the meeting at 18:06, Naomi seconds.
