Agenda & Proceedings:
VP Social
- Festivus: Karissa has a Costco card, so she and Chris are going next Thursday. There’s a Facebook event. Chris will rent a Santa costume. The manager of Tim Hortons did not seem too excited about giving us free hot chocolate, but David is meeting with the general manager tomorrow. We’ll be meeting at 15:00 to set up and then we can have our meeting with a potluck dinner. We need to figure out how to order alcohol through McGill because we have to have at least one bottle from them.
VP Professional Development
- Stephane Crete Workshop: It’s tonight! “What I Wish I Would Have Known Before my First Teaching Gig”
- Instrumental Conducting Workshop: It’s already full. Kathleen will go through and make up the list of who is going to do it and then email everyone to let them know it’s full and who got in. Kathleen has discussed with Jonathan and Alain about repertoire. Jonathan has a big list. Kathleen is going to talk to Alain about what he wants to use. The actual rehearsal is January 30 during Wind Symphony (11:35-13:35). The lessons will be the week before with Jonathan on an individual basis.
- Workshops for Next Semester: Conducting workshop, Kristen Malbranck’s workshop, and two QBA (Miriam Hartropp is interested but is not sure of her schedule yet). Becky had the idea of doing another conducting event since there is so much interest. Kathleen thinks we should ask for advice at the beginning of each year about what topics people want to see covered in our workshops.
VP Communications
- Minutes: There are now two binders in the side drawer of the desk, one of which has the minutes from this year. I’ll be printing out the minutes from previous years as well. There is a second binder which we can put handouts from workshops in so people can access them if they want.
- Student Sphere: It’s this website where you can sell tickets online. But we don’t sell tickets, so it’s not that useful for us. I will let our contact know that we are not interested.
- Percussion Closet: Shawn thinks that using the empty office for a new percussion closet is a great idea! Becky and I will go to see the building manager next week to tell him about it.
VP Finance
- Winter Semester Budget: It looks good! We have a surplus!
- Sweaters: They should be here early next week. It will be delivered to the 7th Floor and then Gill will pick it up. It has been more than three weeks (we think). It was listed in our contract that it would be less than three weeks.
President
- Publicity: All events (including meetings) should be put on the website calendar. For Social and PD the events have to go on two places on the website. Posters should be put up sooner. Next semester we’ll work on our music ed board to make it nicer. Everyone needs to make sure that they’re announcing the events in their classes as well.
- BEd Constitution Subcommittee: Nancy thinks it’s a good idea, so we’re going to form this next semester with two members from each council and one BEd student.
- Next Meeting: Next Friday at 17:00 in the 8th Floor Lounge (It’s Festivus!).
Adjournment: Becky motions to close the meeting at 17:43, Naomi seconds.
