Agenda & Proceedings:

VP Finance

  • Sweaters: We have the form now. The information will be attached to the enews as well as outside the MEdUSA office. The deadline is October 18, with money.

  • Budget (% from MUSA): According to MUSA’s constitution, we only receive half of the music ed student fees, even though we’ve been getting the whole fee for the past few years. The only way for us to get the full amount is for them to change their constitution. MEdUSA will have a document explaining the situation to show to MUSA at their meeting on Friday. We will also try to see how we can compromise. Gill will make a mock budget with only 75% of the fees to see if that could work. We want to receive half of the minor music ed fees, which will be included in the budget.

  • Semester proposal: Not approved. Will review again next meeting.


VP Socials

  • 1st year event: Under budget: $230. We can’t find the attendance list, but we think around 25 people were there. The pictures will be posted on the website and sent to Becky.

  • Liquor licenses for next events: Dates need to be submitted to Lisa.

  • Semester proposal: Not approved. Will review again next meeting.

  • Music Ed Goes…: There’s now a Facebook group! Chris needs to check out security to make the group only music ed people. The first event is going to be Halloween themed. Hopefully costumed laser tag all night! Second option is La Ronde Fear Fest.


VP Prof Dev

  • Reply to QMEA: All the information is set, the email just has to be sent. We don’t know if we want them to pick it up at the MEdUSA office. We’re going to say it’s an option, but we’d prefer not. We are going to see if the building director would let us have a pick up from the building director or conservatory. We prefer PayPal as a payment option, as they cannot drop off money at the conservatory or building director’s office. Tax receipts will be by request. They need to buy the key chains. We are not going to: burn the logo, attach a business card. $20 is fine and we are not going to make luggage tags. We will put the Viva Sistema video on our website. We need to figure out how to get the supplies to the volunteers, and Naomi is now in charge of the order form. Basically, we want as much as possible to be electronic. We will suggest that we also sell them at concerts.

  • Shawn's workshop: Everything’s good. Kathleen is going to get a key to the room, and get a thank you card. She is also going to book the room for a little earlier so we can set up.

  • Alain’s Conducting masterclass: Kathleen will talk to Alain to confirm dates and offer money. Once it’s confirmed, she will talk to Jonathan to see if he will give lessons the week before and also check how much we pay him.

  • Semester proposal: Becky motions to approve, David seconds.

  • QBA Workshops: This semester is all confirmed. Myriam Hartropp is in preliminaries for next semester. She wants to do it later in the semester and does not have a topic yet.


First Year Rep

  • Minor music ed: See budget notes.

  • Extra project: Wes will take over the resource library project so that Heather can focus on the OMEA project.


VP Comm

  • Enews: Will be sent out after this meeting.

  • Bios and pics: The pictures have been sent to Becky so she can send them to EdUS and MUSA.


President

  • Council retreat: It was awesome! Thanks to David for letting us stay at his place. We recommend it for other years.

  • Constitution subcommittee: Becky motions to create a subcommittee, Naomi seconds. It will start after Thanksgiving. The committee will consist of Naomi, Becky, and Gill.

  • Office decor: People don’t know that we’re in the office. Also, MUSA took up a lot of room on the door. We want to print a bigger logo and put our photos up in our window. We should also put our logo on our desk, and put up a cheesy teacher border around our windows. Becky will look for the borders. Heather will print off the pictures of the council to post. We need to post the medusa head up.

  • Website: Everybody is responsible for their own dates: meetings, workshops, events, etc.

  • Regular meeting time (hopefully same as next meeting time): Regular meeting time will be 16:45 on Wednesdays. Next week will be a short meeting because of the percussion workshop.

  • Office hours/keys: Go get your keys! Then you can get in the office. Office hours will be posted on the website and on the office.
