Reports
- QMEA Report: They are in the process of becoming a charitable organization. They are disaffiliating from the CMEA in order to achieve charitable status. They want a QMEA-MEdUSA workshop to be set up in February. Doug will sort it out.
- QBA Report: QYWE is starting up in January. Good numbers from conference. They know the dates for the next workshop. Honour bands are going on in February - volunteers will be needed.
Professional Development
- Conducting Workshop: Doug spoke with Francois Ouimet. Just waiting for email confirmation and repertoire choices. Patricia Abbott will be involved as well as a teacher. Suggested dates were 19th or 21st of January, 2015. Waiting for confirmation.
- Conducting Opportunity: Yvan Sabourin of Ganymède contacted Doug and is interested in having conducting students do “stages” or internship for the choir - formally or informally. Perhaps in the future could be for credit. All French choir, and therefore, the conductor must be fluent in French. Could be open to multiple students. Perhaps 4 (one for each section of choir).
- Joel Wapnick: He is retiring in January. Lisa wanted to invite him to the Festivus Christmas Party. We will get a card for the students to sign for him wishing him well.
- MEdUSA Workshops: Becky has set up two more workshops! The workshop Monday the 24th of November, 5:30, A410, Ginette Purdy “Band as part of the school community”. Two new ones after that. January workshop: Cheryl Ann Gundry-White, “Starting a Band program from scratch”, A410, 5:30, Wednesday January 14th. Another new one: February 19th, 5:30, A410 with Shelagh McKibbon-U’Ren, “Teaching theory effectively in a group setting”.
Finance
- Sweaters: We sold 9 in total. Gill will hand everything in by tomorrow when she gets the details from him. She will see if she can get an expected arrival date from him too.
- Budget: MUSA got back to Gill! EdUS is still working on getting their numbers in order.
- Teeshirts: Gill spoke to EdUS. We can include our order with EdUS. Gill will post the links in the group and we can decide from there. She will also get a deadline for input.
Social
- Festivus: It’s in 3 weeks! Naomi is creating an event tonight and posters should go up next week. We got the liquor licence and everything looks pretty good! Naomi has a bunch of cards we can use to write to everyone! Naomi is super on top of this!
General
- Drum Circle: Naomi had a meeting with Robyn Wiltshire (in charge of Student Life and Learning). She cleared up the questions about budget and advertising for the Drum Circle. It’s a super expensive event for SLL to do, but she still wants it. She asked SSMU to pay for the room booking but they never responded. She will sponsor the event for this term, but wants joint responsibility for SSMU for next semester and onward. Naomi will approach Counseling Services for joint sponsorship. Naomi is also looking at MUSA and SSMU funds.
Next Meeting: Sunday, 23rd of November, 5:15 in A-510.
Adjournment: Heather motions to close the meeting at 18:07, Chris seconds.
