Reports
- EdUS - Their thrift shop is coming up! It’s super fun and a great idea! Charity week is coming up. Grad Ball is coming up.
Professional Development
- Choral Conducting Workshop - It went well! The feedback from participants, Pat, and Francois was all positive. The participants are getting written feedback from Francois in a week or so. All the videos are on YouTube as unlisted videos. Discussions are being had regarding payment. One thing that will have to be done will be to have a consistent payment for the instrumental and choral workshops year to year. This will be discussed by next year’s council.
- QBA Workshop - It went really well! Cheryl Ann Gundry-White was super dynamic. 19 people attended! Becky will get the powerpoint and add will share it with the participants. The mentor is open to communication with students with any questions, which is cool. 2 QBA members attended as well.
- Next Workshop - March 23, A410, 530pm, Elizabeth Lanzer, “Teaching Children with Special Needs in the Music Classroom”
General
- French Language Sessions - c’est bien! 7 people attended. It was a little unorganized. Sofiya is creating a “casual speaking french group” of Sofiya, Karissa, Trevor and Gillian. This is a little more flexible. A second one should be organized biweekly to see what happens next. Suggestion to link it with MELE - offer lessons in French. Or create workshop about “how to survive a French music rehearsal”. Play easy word games in French ( 2 truths and a lie etc ).
- New Horizons - David would like to continue with the idea of having an official relationship between New Horizons and MEdUSA. Some suggestions are to have representation on council or work to make New Horizons a “Special Project” within McGill. Part of NHB mission statement is to offer an opportunity for music education students (through conducting/lessons/playing/sectionals). Another suggestion is to have a representative of the council be a liaison to MNHB. They would be requesting communication and help with promotion. The goal for MNHB is to have 2 meetings per semester and have the liaison attend the meeting. They are seeking an affiliation with MEdUSA.
- Music Monday - 2015 is showcased in Montreal! The song has been released and is up on their website. Actual day is May 4th from 12-1pm. They are looking towards having politicians and musicians at their event. It will take place at Place des Arts. There will be a nation-wide webcast and a student drumline on St Catherine’s street. David can send a blurb and it can be distributed to our general assembly.
- Elections - We set a date. It must be between Feb 1 and March 31. It will be February 24, 25, 26, the 26th being the Grilled Cheese Sale. CEO must publicize 21 days prior to election days (This Saturday). Chris will be the CEO. Chris will send out email with nomination form.
Social
- Drum Circle - Shawn Mativetsky is willing to just have Naomi email him the room, day, time and he will take care of it. Naomi will email around to see who is available to facilitate who took the World Drumming Course. A proposal has been submitted to the MUSA Student Life Fund to help facilitate running it at the SSMU Ballroom.
Next Meeting: Next Thursday, 7:30
Adjournment: Doug motions to close the meeting at 20:30, Heather seconds.
