Agenda & Proceedings:
VP Prof Dev
- Percussion Workshop: It was a success! It went really well. Shawn really enjoyed it, and it seems like everyone who went enjoyed it. There were 13 people present. However, they were mostly council members and people on their stage.
- Masterclass Endowment Fund: A fund that MUSA uses to support workshops. Becky was wondering if we could use part of it for our conducting workshop in January. Kathleen will inquire. Naomi emailed earlier in the year and was told we could fill out a form to apply for the money. Kathleen will find our more information.
- Alain Juteau: Kathleen sent a confirmation email. It is on November 4 at 19:00 in A-412. Posters should go up soon-ish.
- QMEA: Someone on the QMEA is taking a leave of absence from their school for an undetermined amount of time and will need a replacement. If anyone knows someone who should be contacted about this, let Kathleen know before she opens up to the more general music ed population (on the Facebook group, email GA, etc).
- Kristen Malbranck: Kathleen is going to email her tonight for a potential non-QBA workshop next semester.
VP Finance
- Sweaters: We have 6 order forms so far. Apparently it is not clear to a few people (who were on the council last year) that this is a new sweater order. Gill will post on Facebook to remind people. We are going to keep the deadline on Friday to put the pressure on people.
- Budget: Becky motions to approve, Naomi seconds. Congratulations Gill!
VP Social
- New Horizons Band: David had a meeting with Audrey. It seems we have a few opportunities to get involved with it. She wants to get music ed students involved (i.e. conducting sectionals). She needs volunteers for an information session on January 7. She also wants to advertise so people can find out about it. She wants to get older people involved (i.e. 50+). Audrey will look into involving high school kids as well. We can also get involved with putting up posters, and we can get involved in religious communities. She really wants music ed students to join the band, and it will be subsidized for sure if not free. We need a logo for the band.
President
- Cabinet: Thank you for the people who cleared it out! There’s a new cabinet, but we don’t have keys to it yet. Becky is going to go see Peter.
- Constitution: The subcommittee will plan a meeting within the next two weeks.
- GA: Apparently, if we want to make motions at the GA, they were due September 27. Nancy has emailed the administration.
- Meeting with EdUS President: We received the student list from the president. We also found out that there are lots of ways we could be receiving more money. SAPEK receives 100% of their student fees, and we could receive the same if we apply. We have to justify it, but that shouldn’t be too hard. We are going to have to start going through the same reimbursement process as with MUSA. On top of the student fees, if we need money for certain events we can just ask. We can also apply from the SSMU Campus Life Fund, Ambassador Fund (reimbursement for workshops), and Space Fund. We would have to apply next semester as the deadline for this semester is Friday. Apparently at the various meetings Katie attends it keeps being brought up that music ed is getting shafted. They want to help us, but they don’t know how. They want ideas! We want to come up with ideas for if we have more money. Put your ideas on Google Drive!
- Next Meeting: Next Wednesday at 19:00. Room TBD.
Adjournment: Becky motions to close the meeting at 18:02, David seconds.
