Agenda & Proceedings:
VP Professional Development
- General Music for Adults and Teenagers: The class is required to attend one workshop this semester for 5% of the grade. This means we will have to have an attendance list for each workshop.
- Conducting Workshop: It’s on January 30. The scores are available for pick up from Alain and are also available in the library. Everyone is invited to attend. We are going to use some of the PD budget to pay for Jonathan’s lessons. It would be nice to film everyone and then send it to them, so Kathleen will get a camera for that day.
- Cordell: There is a workshop with him on January 23, probably around 18:00. It will be something to do with comping for Jazz. Next up is posters and a Facebook event.
- Kristen: It will be towards the end of February. It will about composing and improvising with children.
- Doug’s Suggestion: Doug’s teacher would be interested in doing a workshop to do with working with children with disabilities. It would be $50 an hour plus gas. This wouldn’t be for this year, but it could be for next fall. Doug is going to send us the information so we can start looking into it.
VP Finance
- Grilled Cheese: It will be Wednesday February 26. Gill will start letting people know. We’ll go to Costco again to get enough supplies for the grilled cheese.
- Sweaters: There is one sweater that hasn’t been picked up. Gill will write up a report about the sweaters.
- Budget: Gill is waiting for replies from various people about different issues.
- Space Fund: We are hoping to use this to repair some of the instruments. Gill needs information about what needs to be fixed so she can apply. She will ask Lisa.
VP Communications
- Enews: Send Heather your blurbs by Monday so it can go out!
- Part Time Studies: Heather will email the guy back saying yes and giving him the email for the music academic advising people.
VP Social
- Festivus: It was fun! It went well. Santa was amazing. Gill has the attendance list. There wasn’t enough egg nog. The savory food could use some more variety (less cheese). We have the liquor license for the showcase.
- Alumni Event: Vanessa Coderre wants to do it. Liz, Sean, Sarah. We’re thinking either a Thursday or Friday, one of the two weeks right after Reading Week.
VP Academic
- EdUS Food Drive: The charity committee of EdUS is having a food drive from January 14 - February 14. Apparently it’s a competition between DISE, SAPEK, and MEdUSA. What we have to do is have a box outside our office so that people can drop off cans with the openers on them. Naomi will ask them more specifically at the EdUS meeting.
President
- Review:
- Members: anyone can go to our workshops
- Don’t forget about deadlines for reports, agenda, etc
- Semester reports are due by the end of month
- As soon as you know the date for an event, put it on the calendar/website!
- Music Ed Board: This needs help! Make sure to make posters and put them on the board. Also, take down any posters that aren’t related to music ed.
- Try and put up pictures faster on the website
- Subcommittees (BEd, MEdUSA Constitution, MUSA Constitution): We’re going to recruit members for some of these via the enews. They’re also still going on.
- Student Lounge: Becky will re-email Nancy about this and about Gill and Naomi being on the subcommittee.
- Dean: Naomi and Becky are going to figure out when to meet with him this semester.
- Meetings (EdUS/MUSA): Becky is going to go to a MUSA meeting, and Becky and Gill are going to go to an EdUS meeting. Wes and Naomi will send out the meeting times so people can go to one or the other.
- Elections: Start thinking about what you want to do next year! Becky will look up the technicalities of the election procedure.
- Publicized Meeting: We should advertise one of our meetings close to elections so that people can see how we work. Heather will bake.
- QBA Report: CBA wants to encourage membership in the provincial organisations (i.e. QBA). They are also looking for a translator for the Canadian Winds Journal.
- MEdUSA Rep Voting Powers on MUSA: Becky will email Nancy because we think the MEdUSa rep should have a vote.
- Potluck: We’re thinking of having the next meeting at Becky’s house with a potluck so we can have a discussion about the council and what works/doesn’t work.
- Office Hours: Becky will make a doodle poll.
- Regular Meeting: Tentatively 17:30 on Monday (or Wednesday)
Adjournment: Becky motions to close the meeting at 18:59 , Kathleen seconds
